August 18th 2010 | It's been a while... (understatement
of the year)
Well, so many things have happened since the last update.
Here's 2010 so far in words...
January 2010:
Pretty Maids entered the
studio to record what became their best album in many years -
according to both the world press AND the band. The masterpiece
is called "Pandemonium". Go get it or listen to some songs here:
www.prettymaids.dk
Also the fantastic band
Cryoshell finished their recordings+mix and mastering in
2010. This resulted in the self-titled album which was out in
June. A great blend of heavy guitars, modern rhythms, excellent
musicianship, and fronted by a charismatic female vocalist
unlike most...
February 2010:
The new Raunchy album "A Discord Electric" has also been
recorded, mixed and mastered here. I love it. It's as simple as
that. You should pick this new masterpiece up as soon as humanly
possible!
Mercenary has also been in
the studio recording their much anticipated follow-up to "Architect
Of Lies".With a line-up change that would kill most bands, the
new material and recording have proven the exact opposite! The
band is stronger than ever! Mix will be done soon.
April 2010:
The new Volbeat album has
been recorded and mixed, and it's been great fun! Fantastic new
songs and a band that sounds better than ever! You'll be floored...
Watch some pics at my
Myspace site.
May 2010:
The Interbeing has tracked drums here for their upcoming
album. Guitars have been re-amped and mix has been started.
Prepare for a lethal dose of precise riffing and unbelieveable
hooks.
Austrias Artas
had their coming album "Riotology" mixed here, and it was a
pleasure! Great songs (again) and this time showing much more
mature material. Keep an eye on these guys! Out on Napalm
Records
From the cold north I give you
SIC! SIC from the Faroe
Islands were here to track their new album, which was later
mixed by Tue Madsen.
Of course there has been a bunch of other great projects, a.o.
Deed In Karma, Wodarka, Croan, Scarred By Beauty, Neeva, Jakob
Hellum, The Storm, Her Day, Anubis Gate, Psy:Code, Process,
SmokeBlow etc.
October
31st 09 | Wooooo! Halloween...
Unfortunately updating this homepage has been quite problematic, since
I switched from PC to MAC entirely (good riddance! Ha!), but now I'll
try updating more regularly.
Some news from the
studio:
Volbeat just stopped by to record 2 new
songs. 1 demo song for the new album, and 1 song for the famous Danish
boxer Mikkel Kessler. It was great fun and Mr. Kessler himself visited
the studio, and sang back-up vocals. On a side note, the band is right
now touring US east coast with Metallica.
The
Storm - "Black Luck" is the
title of the new The Storm album, which has been highly anticipated by
the Danish audience and press, since their debut album, which caused
quite a stir in especially the Danish press. "Are Your Shoes Too
Tight?", being their first single, has already gained massive airplay n
national P3, as well as the band is everywhere in the Danish press.
Reviews are overwhelming!
Heathen - I was honored to be mixing
the new Heathen album together with Lee Altus, whom I'd admired for
many years for his steady Hetfield'ish rhythm guitars. The band has far
from weakened through age, but has become even stronger and heavier. Go
get 'em!
Destinity - French
prog death metal mongers returned for another album. This time it's
more straight, but also far succeeds its predecessor in heaviness and,
I might add, the performance is better this time. Keep an eye on this
album out on Lifeforce soon.
Malrun - This
highly talented Danish prog metal/rock band has been in the studio to
record their debut album. There's a lot of interest for this band,
which has released a couple of demos that showed an unbelievable
quality. Right now, I am mixing the album.
Onion Tree -
Faraoe Islands never cease to amaze me! This band came out of nowhere,
and I frankly didn't know what to expect, but they really floored me!
It's not metal, but more rock/pop with a heavy twist. I mixed 4 songs,
which I strongly advice you to check out.
Billy Boy In
Poison - Danish tech-death metallers have been in the studio to
record
6 crushing songs. This was mostly engineered by Jeppe Andersson, with
my help, and it will be mixed soon. Expect class-A tech death!
5Diez - Russian
metal strikes again. This time this very versatile metal band is being
mixed as I write this. Interesting songs varying from NU-metal over
traditional metal with a twist.
Deed In Karma -
Danish rock outfit with a bunch of highly skilled musicians.
Songwriting is in focus and we have just begun to track drums and main
guitars. Very promising. This will end up as a full album.
The Wildhearts -
finished this magnificent album! It's been receiving massive
positive response all over Europe. Especially in the UK where
KERRANG! gave them 6K's, and an award.
Destruction - Mixed
their double liveCD "Live In Agony - The Curse Of The Antichrist".
The title came when everything went wrong from the start! Live
recordings lost... crashed disks... packages lost in transit
etc. But eventually, something great came out of it!
June 19th 09 | News
Lately I've been SO busy, it's
ridiculous! :) Tons of projects that piles up, and sorry to
those who have to wait.
Stuff that I've been (and still am) working on:
The Wildhearts - new album! Lots of songs (did we do 17
or something?) to mix and master. Should be done next week, tho.
The Storm - working on vocals for their coming album. This one
is huge! A heavy slab of very heavy rock/metal with a good doze
of melody. I'm really excited about this one!
The Bronx Casket Co. - this new album has been underway for a
long time, due to technical communication problems in the
beginning. But now there's light at the end of the tunnel! Mixes
are 99% complete and masters have to be done.
Cryoshell - 1 song is ready and mixed, and
is gonna be used for the new LEGO campaign for Bionicle. We
recently tracked more songs for the bands coming album, and I
love the songs. Soon we'll track some more vocals.
Dan Skotvig - this highly skilled
multi-talent has written and recorded new songs, which I am
mixing whenever time allows it. The band is called The Caliber
Arts.
DÚNÉ - The Danish rock act... I'm putting
final touches on the songs that I mix for the coming album to be
mastered in NY next week. I love these guys! "Victim Of The
City", which was the first single, and one of the songs that I
mixed. (Michael Ilbert (Cardigans, LOK etc.) is mixing 5 songs -
I do the rest), hit A-rotation on national radio P3 for a week.
Volbeat - I mixed their latest live show in
VEGA. It'll be announced soon where you can hear that!
Destruction - working on their live CD to
come out soon. Wacken 07 and Tokyo 09 is represented so far.
More to come...
May 18th 09 | News update... It's embarrassing that this is never updated. Oh well,
people should be able to follow my work with current updates on:
www.myspace.com/hansenstudios
TYR - I mixed their new album just 3 days before the deadline!
I've always loved this band, and working for them again was a
pleasure. www.myspace.com/tyr1
SURFACT - unbelieveable catchy Danish metal rock, which was produced and
recorded by Søren Balsner of Carpark North, and mixed by me. Be sure to check
them out - here!
DÚNÉ - I did 2 test songs with this cool Danish rock/pop/electro act, and we all
felt something really special came out of the cooperation, so I've been working
more than 5 weeks together with the band to complete their 2nd album. This is an
amazing band. It's no metal, but I looove it!
www.myspace.com/dunesite
BRONX CASKET CO. - the fantastic project featuring a.o. DD Verni (Overkill) and Michael
Romeo (Symphony X). I am currently putting the final touches to the mixes of
this album. Great metal songs leaning towards industrial... This is gonna be
killer! www.myspace.com/bronxcasketco
THE STORM - new album from this excellent Danish hard rock band. On the new
album we're going metal... Or at least heavier!
www.myspace.com/thestormdk
VIRA - Jeppe Andersson, my assistant, has - with my supervision - been working
on the new MCD from Danish Vira. Great, semi-techo-stuff-metal. Yeah, we
liky-liky! I didn't master this, by the way... www.myspace.com/virametal
PYTHIA - class-A symphonic opera-metal from Britain! I mixed this album, and I
believe they're working on a deal at the moment. www.myspace.com/pythiamusic
CRYOSHELL - this project made songs for a LEGO Bionicle campaign, and gained so
many fans that it's now a real band. I am recording, producing and mixing a full
length for them right now. GREAT stuff! www.cryoshell.com
THE SYSTEM DIVIDE - I had the pleasure to mix these fantastic
songs of this project featuring a.o. Svencho from Aborted and
Miri Milman from Distorted. Nice! We can only hope a full-length
will see the light of day.
www.myspace.com/systemdivide
THE WILDHEARTS - I had the pleasure of working with this
legendary punk/hardcore/rock band, and I am currently putting
the final touches on their new album, which I recorded, mixed
and mastered. VERY great stuff, indeed.
www.myspace.com/thewildhearts
Of course I've done numerous
masterings, smaller mixes and other projects that I simply
forgot to mention in the haste. Sorry!
November 11th 08 | News Stuff I am working on now:
DELAIN - Dutch symphonic metal monsters have decided to let me
mix, reamp and master their new album, which I'm very happy
about! Oliver Philips did the recordings at SpaceLab Studio,
Germany.
PESTILENCE - new album from this legendary band! Line-up:
Patrick Mameli - guitars/vocals, Patrick Uterwijk - guitar,
Peter Wildoer - drums, Tony Choy - bass. The lot has been 2
weeks in the studio to do all basic recordings. I will start
mixing really soon...
TRENDKILL METHOD - more Russian quality metal! Actually the
level of musicianship of these bands is stunning. It's bound to
happen soon, that a Russian band breaks into the European market.
Featuring Danish singer from Numbnuts and keyboards from Anubis
Gate member Kim Olesen. November 5th 08 | Updates! Again, I see myself using Myspace.com as my more frequently
updated site. Please make sure you visit that:
www.myspace.com/hansenstudios
That said, the end of 2008 is nigh, and it's been a helluva year!
First and foremost, my most popular band to date - VOLBEAT - has
written history. Never has a Danish (rock/metal) band gained such an
attention as on their newly released "Guitar Gangsters And
Cadillac Blood".
It entered the German Media control charts at #15 and is so far still in the Top
100 Album charts. Other Top Chart Positions for “Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac
Blood” all over the continent : Denmark #1 , Sweden #4 , Austria #26 , Norway
#26 , Netherlands #29 , Switzerland #30 and Finland #1
German DEADLOCK has been recording/mixing their new, fantastic
album here. Make sure you listen to this! They're bound to become big!
SERENITY from Austria has been mixing their recent, highly
regarded album "Fallen Sanctuary" here.
OLIVER WEERS won't probably ring a bell to any foreign readers,
but surely to the Danish! This guy represented the hard rock side of music in
the latest season of X-Factor. I had the pleasure to mix his solo album. He's a
VERY talented singer, and his backing band features a.o. Marco Mendoza (Whitesnake,
Twisted Sister) and legendary Tommy Aldridge (Whitesnake, Ozzy etc.)
When I was 15 I was introduced to this insane band called
DESTRUCTION. They had this look and approach that made me go: "I wanna be like
them! more than 20 years later I have the pleasure of being a producer of 2 of
their albums - "Thrash Anthems" (a re-recording of classic songs) and "D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N."
- their 25th anniversary album! It doesn't get much better than this :)
Some other (not less important) projects I've worked on:
ICON IN ME - Russian death thrash which features Tony
Jelenchovic of M.A.N. and Morten Loewe of Submission/The Arcane Order. I did
drum recordings as well as re-amping, mixing and mastering. Out on Massacre
Records!
THE INTERBEING - rather fantastic new Danish band that came out
of nowhere! I did the mixing and mastering of this MCD.
DRONE - new album from these German monsters! Toured with
Overkill recently! One to keep an eye on! I did mix, mastering and re-amping.
DISPARAGED - Swiss high-class death metal. I love these guys!
Great classy death metal leaning towards the (good) old-school way of doing it.
Re-amped, mixed and mastered here.
DAWN OF DEMISE - new MCD from the Danish death metal bunch. I
mixed and mastered.
June 12th 08
| General news I can't believe how long time it's been since I've updated
this site. Sorry 'bout that.
There's been a great bunch of fantastic bands in the studio
since the last update. Some of them here:
COMMUNIC recently hit the German charts at position 94, as well
as they've received raving reviews on their recent metal opus "Payment
Of Existence".
VOLBEAT - the much anticipated follower to last years
mega-success has been recorded. I'd say the melodies are
stronger and they're really showing their great diversity on
this one.
RAUNCHY's "Wasteland Discoteque" was recorded and mixed here,
and my fave Danish band once again rocks seriously!
MERCENARY - I've once again had the pleasure working with these
fellow countrymen, and this time we went for a more organic
sound, which really compliments the bands potent metal.
TYR "Land" was recorded and mixed here last year, and I think
this is their best album to date. VERY different from many other
metal bands out there without being avantgarde or annoying! :)
THE ALTO - I had the utmost pleasure to work with a pop/rock
band with an electro touch. This doesn't happen that often, but
it's very entertaining and educational! Go check 'em out here:
(I did the first two songs only)
www.myspace.com/thealto
PYRAMAZE "Immortal" was mixed here. This time with the famed
singer Matt Barlow on board. I'd say this could be their
strongest release this far, which also the reviews in various
leading metal publication indicates.
THE CLEANSING - Death metal is back in fashion!Class-A death
metal with a twist, delivered by some of our finest musicians in
extreme metal.
www.thecleansing.net
DESTRUCTION - yes, the mighty purveyors of teutonic thrash! We
recorded and mixed their new, and 25th anniversary album here,
and what a blast! It has all the elements that made me love this
band since '85, and more!
December 28th 07 | 2007
soon gone... Happy new year! It's been a wonderful year with a lot (35-40) great
productions! Thanks to all the fantastic people involved. Thanks
to all bands, record labels and managers that make things work!
I have high hopes for 2008. There are already some marvellous
bands booked, and it's gonna be even more fun. Later!
December 13th 07 | Merry Christmas! Well, it is christmas... At least soon to be. It lies
threatening ahead, which means I have to take some days off...
Ouch! :) Anyway, The Gallery
section has been restored and updated. Check for new pics of
Mercenary, Rob Rock, The Arcane Order, Neaera, TYR, etc.
November 8th 07 | Volbeat goes platinum! It's overwhelming! 30.000 copies sold in Denmark, and metal
music writes history. I don't think this has ever happened
before!
November 8th 07 | Mercenary recording new album Mercenary has been in the
studio (and still is, as I write this) to record the follow-up
to last years success "The Hours That Remain". So far drums,
rhythm guitars and a major part of the vocals have been tracked,
and right now Morten and Martin are working on keyboards and
lead guitars respectively, while new "singer" (screamer) Rene is
working on his vocal parts in another studio owned by Smaxone's
Skafte.
September 11th 07 | Studio upgrade!
It was time to upgrade the studio, so I recently purchased
Protools HD3, running on an Intel Mac Xeon 2.66 Ghz with 3GB
RAM. Furthermore StudioB was upgraded with a Digi002 Rack for
easy recording and editing. But that's not all! An extensive
rebuilding will hopefully see the light in the last part of
2007. StudioB will have a vocal/guitar/bass booth as well as an
Intel Mac, to make things go even smoother.
October 8th 07 | Digimortal
I have just completed the mixing of Digimortal, Russian
industrial-inspired metal. Very good stuff, I think! More to
come from these guys hopefully!
September 11th 07 | The Arcane Order
Metal Blade recording artists
The Arcane Order,
has entered the studio to record the follow-up to last-years
highly acclaimed debut. Drums have been recorded, and a major
part of the guitars are also done. Bass recordings have been
started - thanks to eskildsen.dk for the Traben bass!
August 28th 07 | Paradox mix I am currently working on the mix for German metallers
Paradox (AFM Records).
August 20th 07 | Mixes and masterings French death/thrash mongers
Destinity have been
nearly 3 weeks in the studio to finsh their 3rd album "The
Inside", which is a big step forward for them. New musicians
added to the line-up makes it very strong.
I have done the mastering for Ron Jarzombek's new project
Blotted Science,
featuring Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse fame and Charlie
Zeleny (Jordan Rudess drummer). Great stuff, indeed! And great
to be working with a person I've admired since the early
Watchtower days.
July 23rd 07 | Mixed
nuts! It's been quite a while since the website was updated
with news. So here goes:
- German blast/tech metallers Centaurus-A visited the studio to
track drums for their coming album. It sounds real promising
already. They'll continue recording at their own studio, putting
down guitars, bass and vocals, and I'll mix the lot later this
year.
-
Prey For
Nothing from Israel was here to do their debut album. It was
a real pleasure to work with this band. Very good musicians -
really determined and enthusiastic, as well as very nice
individuals. Labels should check these guys out! - The new
Maroon album has been finished! The band recorded drums here
and did the rest of the recordings at Rape Of Harmonies. I mixed
the album, and it's a true slap in your face! I just love it...
Can't wait to hear the reactions out there... - Mixed a single song for
Unleash The
Fury a new dutch band featuring Sven Janssens of Aborted.
Really heavy stuff!
- Neaera'sthird album "Armamentarium" has been recorded and
mixed. We went for a really heavy and dirty sound this time, and
the album is just a blast! Everything is much more "fat" this
time. Listen and judge for yourself. - Danish death metal pioneers
Thorium
mixed their new album here. Recorded at Berno Studio, Sweden.
- I was at Roskilde Festival mixing
Volbeat's opening
for national Radio P3. It was pure craziness!
More than 50.000 people watched the show, screamed the lyrics
and praised the band. A clip can be seen here
Volbeat Roskilde. -
Svartsot
has been recording their debut album for Napalm Records here. It
seems like Denmark has a lot of different styles to offer, and
the latest being well-performed folk/viking metal. Keep an eye
on this bunch!
- Next up is a remix of Leatherwolf's "World Asylum" album with
new vocals.
May 26th 07 | Website update
Once again the website was facelifted by webdesigner and musician Daniel Wodarka. Thanks for your work!
Apr 16th 07 | C-187 mix
I was asked to do the mix of legendary Patrick Mameli's (Pestilence) new project, featuring Sean Reinert (Cynic, Death), Tony Choy (Cynic, Atheist) and Tony Jelenchovic (M.A.N., Transport League). This was a true pleasure as all the bands that the members were in earlier meant and still means a lot to me. Mascot Records will release the album in September.
Mar 15th 07 | Volbeat - Again...
The Praise never stops! Volbeat has now entered #1 on the official national "best selling albums" list. This has never happened before to a metal band! The band is now playing sold-out shows all over the country. And the reviews all over Europe are amazing. #1 in Rock Hard (D), #1 in Metal Hammer (D), #1 in Aardshock (NL) and probably more...
Feb 1st 07 | Volbeat - it's coming!!!
The long awaited follow-up to the debut "The Strength - The Sound - The Songs" is out soon. The band recorded their 2nd album here and it was great fun. The song "The Garden's Tale" has already been aired a number of times on Danish National Radio (P3), which is notorious for not playing metal on a regular basis :) But Volbeat has changed all this! Now I'm anxious to see reviews coming in...
Feb 1st 07 | Better late than never!
Just saying congrats to Fear My Thoughts for their #2 in Rock Hard and #7 in Metal Hammer, and raving reviews all over Europe. Metal Hammer even stated that this was the most interesting band in Germany right now.
Jan 15th 07 | My drumkit...
Due to the fact that many bands ask for a drum kit, I went out and bought a really great sounding kit. With kind help from Norman (Fear My Thoughts) and Gundel (Invocator) I believe I found the right kit in this:
Yamaha Maple Custom Definitive 10", 12", 14" and 16" toms, 20"x17" bass drum. Mapex Black Panther Maple snare.
